Play Date Cafe Challenge PDCC92 - Just a Note

My first thought after seeing the colors for the current challenge at The Play Date Cafe was, "Yummy!" The suggested colors are Coral, Petal Pink, and Antique Gold. Interestingly enough, I ended up using some CTMH colors named after desserts: Sorbet and Creme Brulee. Quite yummy!
I think this color combination is just gorgeous and it is one that I don't tend to use it very much so I'm glad it made me think outside of my box.

Supplies used (all CTMH except for ribbon, thread, and nestabilities): (X7131B) Sophia Level 2 paper pack, the patterned paper behind dragon fly is from the retired Life Delights, (D1444) A Little Thanks stamp set, (C1299-retired) Butterfly Kiss-dragonfly image, (Z2114) Cocoa stamp pad, Sorbet cardstock, Creme Brulee cardstock, (Z697) Round Sponge.

Heart to Heart Challenge 66

I've been trying to organize and declutter my craft area and although I knew I had a lot of retired (CTMH) items, my efforts have brought to light the enormity of the amount of retired paper, embellishments, and stamps that I have! Yikes! (And I do let my daughter use my things and I often donate items to the preschool where I work. There's just so much!) I think I had better get down to more creating!

So here's my entry for this week's Heart 2 Heart Challenge (using a number of retired items such as that cute ribbon). I don't know if you can tell from the photo, but I used Liquid Glass on the beak and on the little white dot on the irises.

Supplies used (all CTMH except Nestabilities): (C1362) You're a Hoot stamp set, (Z2116) Cranberry stamp pad, (Z2153) Sweet Leaf stamp pad, (Z2111) Chocolate stamp pad, (Z1361) Brads - Red Assortment, (Z679) Liquid Glass, (Z697) Round Sponge, Nestabilities Decorative Elements Dies
(retired items - ribbon, flower, paper)

Here's an image of the sketch from Heart 2 Heart.

Art Philosophy Cricut® Collection

We are back from vacation and I spent much of my down time pouring over the new Close To My Heart Idea Book (Autumn/Winter 2011) which goes live on August 1st! There are some big changes, one of which is that we now sell a Cricut cartridge called, "Art Philosophy," which coordinates with a number of Close To My Heart stamp sets and Dimensional Elements! Here's a video that gives some more information and shows some samples of projects made with the cartridge and coordinating products.

Clean and Simple FTL 148 Plus Cards with Sophia Scraps

My Kids' Scramp Camp ended yesterday so I am in the process of reclaiming my dining room! I should have taken a before and after picture but the dining table was covered with layers upon layeers of paper and then ink underneath that...but it wasn't too difficult to clean up and it got me in the creating mood. As promised, here are some projects using some of the leftovers of the Sophia paper pack.

My first card was inspired by the current sketch on http://cleanandsimplestamping.blogspot.com/:

And here it is:
Supplies used (all CTMH except for nestabilities dies): (C1340) Aspiration stamp set, (D1187) For Every Occasion stamp set, (X7131B) Sophia Level 2 paper pack, (Z2166) Tulip stamp pad, (Z2128) Hollyhock stamp pad, White Daisy Organdy Ribbon, (Z1151) Foam Tape, (Z1326) Sparkles - Red, Pink, Purple Assortment

So in keeping with the circle theme I made the following two cards. The first one is very simple, no stamping at all. The second one is a non standard size and I added a Desert Sand colored card base to change it up a bit.

Another Birdie

In honor of my friend Lai Fun's birthday, here's a card I made for her!
I have a ton of scraps left from the Sophia papers now that Scramp Camp is on its last day. I am hoping to be good and use up these scraps, but that means I will be using a green and pink color palette for awhile! I added black (from a Silhouette paper scrap...see, I'm trying to use what I have!) and I liked the contrast it gave.
Supplies used (all CTMH): (X7131B) Sophia Level 2 paper pack, (Z2197) Pear stamp pad, (Z2105) Black stamp pad, (Z1336) Opaques Pearl Adhesive Gems, (D1452) Find Your Style -- January 2011 Stamp Of The Month, (retired) Silhouette scrap, (Z1300) Just Blooms White Daist Variety PackPin It

Birthday Birdie

I'm so glad I finally had a chance to work on some challenges! This card combines two challenges: the color challenge at CR84FN and Chupa's Sketchbook Saturday Challenge #18.

The color challenge is to use Red, Pink, and Neutral. I had a hard time figuring out which red to use and I started off with CTMH's Cranberry but it just didn't look right to me with the pink (Blush). So I decided on Tulip and then my card just seemed to flow better. My neutral is White Daisy.

I really like Chupa's pretty sketch for this week. Here's the graphic for you to see.

I wanted my bird image to face towards the right so I stamped the bird from A Tweet on the opposite side of my red patterned paper (from the Sweetheart paper pack), cut it out, and then flipped it over.
Supplies used (all CTMH): (A1104) A Tweet stamp set, (C1257 - retired) Happy Birthday stamp set, (Z2166)) Tulip ink pad, (X7131B) Sophia Level 2 paper pack, (X7134B) Sweetheart Level 2 paper pack, (Z1336) Opaques Pearl Adhesive Gems, (Retired) Summer Posies, (Z1300) Just Blooms White Daisy Variety Pack, (Retired) Hollyhock Ribbon Rounds, (Z1151) Foam Tape

Kids' Summer Scramping Art Camp

This summer, like last, I'm running a stamping/scrapbooking camp for kids. It is very small and informal but a whole lot of fun. It was just too difficult to pick one week that fit everyone's schedule so I decided to run two sessions, but to have the first session be two days while the second session will be four days.

So we were in session this past Thursday and Friday and it went really well. One of the best parts was after camp on Friday when the girls hugged me goodbye. So sweet!

Here are some of the projects we worked on.
Each camp member receives one A Posey stamp set as part of their camp supplies. This is a very simple card we made after I demonstrated how to stamp. I also showed stamp kissing and the rock and roll technique. I really love this stamp set!

The girls each decorated a 5" x 7" insert to slip into the front pocket of the My Creations Journal. I had certain elements that I suggested they use but they picked out their background paper, inked up their initials in whatever colors they wanted, and adhered things wherever they liked. I was inspired by this design by Lisa Stenz.

I had never stamped on candles (or rather on tissue paper to melt into the candles) before and was a little nervous about how these would come out but they really looked beautiful. This isn't the best picture but I snapped it quickly before the girls had to leave. After experiencing how fun and easy this was, I think I will have to come up with a workshop on stamping candles for adults now.

We also altered mini composition notebooks. The girls went all out using sparkles and pearls! Another big project we worked on was altering the My Creations Banner but I don't have pictures of that. As you can see, we mainly used the Sophia papers on the projects for the sake of simplicity. Sometimes it's overwhelming when there is too much choice. Knowing who's coming next week though, I may not be able to limit the campers to just one type of paper pack...but it worked out fine for this week!

My summer has started off very nicely. Other than Scramp Camp, I've had a chance to do some reading and T.V. show/movie viewing that I don't normally get to do during the school year when my work schedule is more hectic. We have a very inexpensive movie theater near us which shows second run movies so I've taken the kids to see two movies there so far, Rio and Hoodwinked Too (we liked both of them). I borrowed the DVD's for The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Season 1 from the library and watched all the episodes (in just a couple of days) -- yes, even though the show came out in 2008, I only got around to watching it now! I just finished reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett and started Eragon by Christopher Paolini.

I've also been obsessed with this.
Panna Cotta!

My sweet friend and boss for my work from home job, Karleen, gave us a gift card for Macaroni Grill which we used to celebrate Father's Day (with a lovely lunch the day after Father's Day...what we do to avoid a rush!). We had their Panna Cotta and decided we needed to make it at home too because it was just so good. It turns out that it is usually made with gelatin which we can't have, so I started researching what we could substitute for it and came up with agar agar. I was only able to find a very expensive little bag of agar agar flakes at Whole Foods but we went ahead and got it. So the kids and I have made it twice so far (successfully). The first two attempts were not so great but we're learning! It goes so nicely with summer berries. I do think I will have to clean off the treadmill and start using it again though!
